Budapest - the Heritage of a Conflicting East-West Relationship

Budapest (about a 2 1/2 hour drive to Vienna) which lies on both sides of the Danube: Buda , the older, on one side and Pest , the newer, on the other . Upon arrival meet your local guide and visit the castle district where many of Budapest's most important landmarks, the Matthias Church and the Fisherman Bastion, are located. Budapest is a survivor. To this day it reflects the heritage of a conflicting east-west relationship. It has been part of the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg dynasty. It suffered under German occupation and the communist regime. Now it has emerged again as the city it once was: lively, vibrant and truly cosmopolitan.
