Vondelpark Open Air Theatre

3 June – 19 Aug. 2007

What could be better this summer than taking in live music, dance and cabaret outside in the green surroundings of Amsterdam's most famous park? In the Vondelpark Openluchttheater (open air theatre) you can attend free performances all season long. The intimate, recently renovated stage nestled in the parks centre showcases everything from classical music to hip-hop, cabaret to theatre, children's shows to dance.

Something for everyone
The Open Air Theatre changes their theme every day. On Wednesday afternoons children's shows begin right after school (children have no classes on Wednesday afternoons in the Netherlands). Lovers of classical music should head for the park on Thursday evenings, and on Friday evenings the focus is on dance performances. The weekends are dedicated to spoken word, with cabaret performances and poetry recitals. There is also plenty of music here on Saturdays and Sundays. Let the rhythms take you to Portugal with the melancholic Fado, or swing to the sounds of Brazilian Latin jazz.

Workshops
All shows can be viewed from the seats in the stands, but there will also be plenty of opportunity to join in the fun. Shake your pelvis at a salsa workshop or strap on your in-line skates and groove to the rhythms of disco golden-oldies.

Robeco Dinner, Concert and Hotel Arrangement

2 July – 28 Aug. 2007

The Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board offers you an exceptional musical arrangement this July and August. Attend a Robeco Summer Concert, enjoy dinner in the Spiegelzaal of the grand Concertgebouw and stay overnight in the 3-star Mercure Arthur Frommer hotel, all for just €125 per person (average cost).

Satisfy your musical pallet
Before your concert enjoy a three-course dinner in the Spiegelzaal (Mirror Hall) of the Concertgebouw. Dinner commences at 18:15.

Heart and Soul: Robeco Summer Concerts
Hundreds of thousands of notes have been set to paper, putting to music an ‘undying love', a 'forbidden passion', or the poignant story of Romeo and Juliet. Music has been the language of love throughout the ages and in every genre. The Robeco Summer Concerts has taken the stirring of the soul to heart, especially that of Johannes Brahms. Treat your soul to the sounds of the Australian youth orchestra or a violin performance, then stay overnight at the Mercure Arthur Frommer Hotel. Concerts begin at 20:15.

Hotel Overnight
The Mercure Arthur Frommer Hotel is located at Noorderstaat #46, between the Prinsengracht and the Vijzelstraat. Shops, restaurants and museums are all within walking distance. Breakfast the next morning is included in the price.

Aalsmeer Flower Parade: ‘Rhythm & Bloom'

1 Sept. 2007

The 60th and final Aalsmeer Bloemencorso (flower parade) will journey back in time and back to Amsterdam. The finale will take place on Saturday 1 September 2007 in the Olympisch Stadion (Olympic Stadium).

During the period of 1950 – 1960 the stadium was a centre for various games and events, and gave the lead role to the Aalsmeer Bloemencorso. The motto for the 60th annual flower parade is 'Rhythm & Bloom' and coincides with Amsterdam's 2007 theme year, Amsterdam, Feel the Rhythm - music & dance.

A spectacular musical performance by various well-known artists will take place in the Olympisch Stadion. The flower parade will take centre stage once again, and the crowd of 22, 000 is sure to be dazzled by the dynamic display of over a million flowers and hundreds of figurines.

Amsterdam Pride 2007: More Festivities than Ever

30 July – 5 Aug. '07

amsterdam gay armsterdam gay

Amsterdam Gay Pride, an annual event which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world, was given a facelift. The new name Amsterdam Pride 2007 brings with it an extended seven day program. The highlight of Amsterdam Gay Pride is the Canal Parade – a carnivalesque, colourful and somewhat risqué boat parade on Amsterdam's canals. Under the slogan, ‘We are Amsterdam Pride', additional events will be organised including a convention, film festival and athletic competition.

Events for everyone
Festivities suited to a broad public will kick off on 3 August at 18:00 with ‘Summer Camp 2007' on the Westermarkt, and will run through until 6 August. From 3 to 5 August a film festival made possible by the Open Air Cinema Foundation will be organised on the Nieuwmarkt.

Street parties
During Amsterdam Pride the following street parties will be held on 4 and 5 August: Rainbow Square on the Rembrandtplein, Montmartre Pride in the Halvemaansteeg, Pride to Be on the Reguliersdwaarsstraat between the Vijzelstraat and the Koningsplein, Summer Jam on the Amstelveld, and a Women's Party in the Paardenstraat. Several other parties will be held along the Amstel Canal between the Muntplein and the Amstelstraat and on the Reguliersdwarsstraat between the Vijzelstraat and the Rembrandtplein.

Best views for the Canal Parade
The highlight of Amsterdam Pride is undoubtably the illustrious Canal Parade on Saturday 4 August between 14:00 – 18:00. The best view of the Canal Parade is along the Prinsengracht or Amstel. There is also always a crowd at the Stopera. The view from the bridges crossing the Prinsengracht is also a great spot to take in the spectacle.

Route
The boats participating in the parade start to gather at Westerdok at 12:00. The actual parade begins at 14:00. The parade usually follows a fixed route: Westerdok, Korte Prinsengracht, the entire Prinsengracht, Amstel, Zwanenburgwal, Oude Schans, ending at Oosterdok.

Closing party
Closing festivities will be organised by Pro Gay on 6 August from 15:00 – 22:00 on the Rembrandtplein.
