Operetta in a prologue and 2 acts
by Leopold Krenn and and Carl Lindau
Music by Carl Michael Ziehrer (1843-1922) (see photo above)
World premiere on 9 March 1901 in the Carltheater, Vienna
Discover a masterpiece of operetta by Vienna’s last waltz king – Carl Michael Ziehrer (1843-1922), who in his time was a rival to Johann Strauss II. Die Drei Wünsche (The Three Wishes) will be performed on August 3rd and 10th at the exquisite theatre in the Palace of Schönbrunn. The operetta’s action – full of farcical intrigue – is itself set in the world of the theatre, and a superb cast will do both comedy and music full justice. When Die Drei Wünsche was first performed in 1901, the critics were full of praise: “Encores were demanded for several of the numbers. Ziehrer himself conducted this new work. The blithe spirits of Viennese music flutter around his baton. The public bestowed ovations on its beloved composer and the operetta was worthy of its wildly enthusiastic reception.“
