The Italian Open Tournament is a popular event where the worlds best tennis players compete against each other. It has grown in popularity each year. It is played in Foro Italico, Rome, Italy.

The Tournament (Masters series), held every year in May at the Foro Italico tennis park, on the banks of the Tevere river, close to the Olympic Stadium. Surface: red clay. Singles final will be best of five sets. The 2003 Italian Open tournament was won by Felix Mantilla, beating Roger Federer of Switzerland, 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8). It was the first Masters Series title for the Spanish clay-court specialist. The women's finals where won by Kim Clijsters, who beat Amelie Mauresmo 3-6, 7-6, 6-0.
