The Lipizzans are the oldest horses bred for representative purposes in Europe. The physique and forceful grace of these intelligent and lively horses bred from Spanish, Italian and Arab blood is particularly suited for the representative equestrian art of the "High School".
During the gala performances you can experience the spectecular perfection of the various "High School" lessons including the "pas de deux", the work in hand and on the long reins, the school above ground and the "great school quadrille" which requires 8 stallions.
The airs above ground are performed in the classical style of the levade, the courbette and the capriole, and are one of the highlights of the shows.
"Privatissimum - Insights into the traditional training methods of the Spanish Riding School" 2008 This new programme provides you with exclusive background information about the traditional training and education of the world famous white horses of the Spanish Riding School.
For the first time in the history of the High School of Riding, one of the chief riders will explain personally how the horses are classically trained. One after the other you will encounter the steps horse and rider have to take in the course of their education, and how this life-long bond is formed and cultivated. For 45 minutes, visitors are enthralled by the world of the noble stallions and their riders. Man and horse have to brave years of intensive training to master the High School in absolute harmony and perfection. Come and share in the stages that make an dive into a rider and a young horse into a school stallion of the Spanish Riding School.
Attending this event, you'll have fun, learn riding, make yourself relax and comfortable, and enjoy the nature. Going with your family is also a good idea.

The Reception Rooms
The 3 Reception Rooms of the Spanish Riding School form the perfect setting for exclusive receptions and events for up to 150 guests. Guests can be ushered directly from the Reception Rooms to the Winter Riding School - just as in imperial times - to enjoy a performance of the "White Ballet".
All 3 rooms offer a spectacular view of the Michaelerplatz, one of Vienna's most beautiful city squares. The incomparable charm of this location makes every event into a very special experience.
The Stallburg - Vienna's oldest Renaissance courtyard
Since autumn 2008 the historical Stallburg can also be booked for exclusive events. Vienna's oldest, to this day intact Renaissance courtyard which dates back to the 16th century has been equipped with a mobile roof construction making it available for special occasions throughout the year. Where else in the world do Lipizzaner stallions watch festivities and events from their boxes?
The Baroque Winter Riding School
Emperor Charles VI commissioned Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach to build this gem of baroque architecture which was completed in 1735 and which is without doubt the world's most beautiful riding hall.
The beauty of the Spanish Riding School as a venue lies in its ability to be the perfect answer for events of all sizes - from the smallest gathering to a grand occasion.

The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the only institution in the world where the classic equestrian skills (haute ¨¦cole) has been preserved and is still practiced in its original form. Many years of training fuse horse and rider into an inseparable unit. The audience is treated to an unforgettable experience by the precision of movement of the Lipizzan horses in perfect harmony with the music.
In the course of gala performances, visitors experience unique presentations of the Lipizzans in the most beautiful riding hall in the world, which was impressively outfitted by baroque architect Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach between 1729 and 1735. It was originally built to provide aristocratic youths with the opportunity to take riding instruction.
Morning training with music gives a good impression into the training program of the White Stallions; the guided tours include visits to the stables.
At the Sacher Caf¨¦ at the Spanish Riding School, you can enjoy a piece (or two) of the famous Sachertorte.
