INTRODUCING SPANISH RIDING SCHOOL |
The Lipizzans are the oldest horses bred for representative purposes in Europe. The physique and forceful grace of these intelligent and lively horses bred from Spanish, Italian and Arab blood is particularly suited for the representative equestrian art of the "High School".
During the gala performances you can experience the spectecular perfection of the various "High School" lessons including the "pas de deux", the work in hand and on the long reins, the school above ground and the "great school quadrille" which requires 8 stallions.
The airs above ground are performed in the classical style of the levade, the courbette and the capriole, and are one of the highlights of the shows.
"Privatissimum - Insights into the traditional training methods of the Spanish Riding School" 2008 This new programme provides you with exclusive background information about the traditional training and education of the world famous white horses of the Spanish Riding School.
For the first time in the history of the High School of Riding, one of the chief riders will explain personally how the horses are classically trained. One after the other you will encounter the steps horse and rider have to take in the course of their education, and how this life-long bond is formed and cultivated. For 45 minutes, visitors are enthralled by the world of the noble stallions and their riders. Man and horse have to brave years of intensive training to master the High School in absolute harmony and perfection. Come and share in the stages that make an dive into a rider and a young horse into a school stallion of the Spanish Riding School.
Attending this event, you'll have fun, learn riding, make yourself relax and comfortable, and enjoy the nature. Going with your family is also a good idea.
Performances only take place on the specific days every month! So don't miss this opportunity!
The Lipizzaner Stud Piber makes a guest appearance in Vienna
All over the world, the Spanish Riding School and its Lipizzaner stallions are famous and loved – but not everyone is familiar with where the horses come from and what actually happens before the young stallions come to Vienna for their training. With our summer programme “Piber meets Vienna” which takes place during the School Stallions’ well-earned summer break we would like to give our guests the opportunity to learn more about what goes on at our stud.
From the very beginning, the Lipizzaner was not only predestined for the High School of Classical Horsemanship, the horses were also always bred for their outstanding qualities as carriage horses. This summer programme therefore not only shows young, playful stallions who have hitherto spent their lives in total freedom up in the mountain pastures of Styria and brood mares with their delightful young foals but also various historical carriages and traditional uniforms.
Piber meets Vienna - from July 3rd to 29th, 2012
