Founded in 1997 by Gustav Kuhn, who is also the artistic director of the festival . The Tyrolean Festival Erl opened on the 11th of July in 1998.

Since then the small Tyrolenan village of Erl near the German border has been hosting this particular event, which takes places every year in July. In the course of the festival Austro-German "classics" such as Mozart, Mahler, Wagner and Beethoven meet contemporay representatives of the European - and in particular- the Austrian musical scene.

Among those taking part in the annual event are young musicians of the Accademia di Montegral as well as ensembles from all over Europe and internationally renowned artists. The cast is rounded off by/with Tyrolean choirs and brass bands, local amateur actors and grazing cows in front of the festival theatre…
